mIRC2

Category: Networking, IRC Tools, mIRC Addon Scripts

Title: mIRC2 1

Format: Win OS

Description: An addon that provides multi server capability to mIRC. Everything looks and feels just like normal mIRC. This is a neat small addon which lets you connect to multiple IRC servers at the same time (using sockets). An excellent readme is provided and installation was a no fuss process. A simple /mirc2 gets you started. DCC is event supported so you can go to various networks and grab all the mp3 files you want without having to worry about multiple mIRC programs *Grins*. The look at feel of the channel window is, well, just like normal mIRC. THe only real noticeable exception for me was no channel central (like when I want to clean my bans). The best thing about this script is that it gets its settings from mIRC's settings, so you don't have to replicate your colour schemes, timestamp preferences, etc... for mIRC and mIRC2. The coding is very nicely done and I couldn't find any bugs in the script (though my nickname had a 1 at the end of it, not too sure about that?). My only gripe is that ther

Title: mIRCMUD 1.6

Format: Win OS

Description: mIRCMUD is a client written in mIRC for connecting to MU* servers for playing interactive Internet games. The script has a clean and intuitive interface. It allows up to four simultaneous connections, which is more than enough. However I can not see it being difficult to allow a much greater number. The script is cleanly coded and works well, it uses mIRC built-in ANSI color conversion, previous versions used an external method which was not as efficient.

Title: mIRCamp 1.2

Format: Win OS

Description: An interesting dialog based MP3 player for mIRC. Playlist support and channel advertising is included. The readme was, unfortunately, too brief for me. It took me a while after loading the script to figure out which button to push to create a play list. Why can't I just select one file and it'll play it for me? In other words, using the script was a bit too cumbersome for me. The dialog itself is aided by DragonZap's MDX dlls, but it didn't really help the overall effect. I was also hoping for some seek buttons. The coding was OK, I had a few problems with trying to create a playlist using a directory with heaps of files in it (INI's can only handle so many... try hash tables). I was also suppressed to see that the script didn't make use of the $mp3 identifier to get the title and artist from the file. The listbox that displayed the current play list isn't very configurable either. I can't look at this script in an entirely negative way. But I'm always going to compare this type of script to w

Title: mRegEdit 1

Format: Win OS

Description: A DLL rather than an addon, this file extends mIRC's abilities by allowing you to add, retrieve and remove data from the registry. Included along side the DLL is an informative instructions file. The instructions file clearly explains how to use the dll with some simple examples. As a security feature the dll only allows the user to modify one section of the registry, HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\mRegEdit, which makes using this dll for full registry editing impossible. However this is also a positive, as it lets the user be assured that the script that uses the dll can't tamper with any other settings. In terms of actually using the dll in a script, not many ideas spring to mind however it could be used to check how many mIRC's are open (especially in the case of a bot), and respond accordingly. It also solves the problem of having multiple mIRC installations each with their own, for example, scripted flood protection settings as the dll could let this information be stored in the registry. Title: mousetrack 1

Format: Win OS

Description: Addon that keeps track of the distance you have moved your mouse on the screen. Interesting little addon that has a much needed readme file to explain what it does. *g* And I quote: "It has many measurement conversions (11 total) including pixels, inches, feet, yards, miles, centimeters, meters, kilometers, fathoms, leagues, and the ever exciting never to be reached lightyears." The addon itself is presented through a dialog interface and basically allows you to see the distance (in the measurement of your choice) that you've moved your mouse from the beginning of when you first started running the script and the number from a certain date (you have the options to reset the latter). While the script seems to work quite well, I don't really see a practical use for it. Also, the scripting aspect of it is not very complicated, simply using mIRC's $mouse & related sub sections to calculate the distance. It's amusing to try though, so if you are intrigued, come and take a look ;)
